A filing that Microsoft Corp. submitted Monday to the Federal Communications Commission suggests the technology giant will likely add phone service to its line of hand-held media players, now known as Zunes.
According to the filing, Microsoft and other firms will submit for the agency’s approval a prototype of a wireless device that could be used to talk over the Internet. Apple Inc. made a similar filing, although chose a different technology, in advance of announcing its iPhone in January.
Since Apple unveiled the iPhone last month, speculation about a competing device from Microsoft has been rampant. Just as the iPhone descends from Apple’s iPod, many think Microsoft’s phone would descend from the Zune.

You can now enjoy full broadband speed on the move and virtually anywhere in the world, thanks to the PC300, Sony Ericsson’s new Mobile Broadband PC Card for laptops. The PC300 is Sony Ericsson’s first to support four generations of the world’s most popular cellular wireless technology - HSDPA, UMTS, EDGE and GPRS – providing you with the same broadband speed as you enjoy from your fixed connection in the office or at home. This robust PC Card has a fully integrated, unobtrusive antenna so you can keep it in your laptop all the time, always ready to make a fast broadband connection, whether you’re off to the coffee shop around the corner or to the other side of the world. With a download speed of up to 3.6 Mbps, getting access to those urgent files or large attachments whilst on the move couldn’t be simpler.
“You no longer have to put up with slower speeds from your broadband connection just because you’re away from the office or home,” explains Johan Tysklind, marketing director, Mobile Computing for Sony Ericsson.

An electronic apparatus includes a phone CPU and a game CPU. When a * key is operated during execution of a game, the phone CPU sets a specified bit of a game key register to “1”. The phone CPU is set “1” into the specified bit when there is an incoming call of a phone during the execution of the game. The game CPU pauses the game being in execution when the specified bit is renewed to “1” and restores the specified bit from “1” to “0”. When the * key is operated in a state the game is interrupted, the phone CPU sets “1” into the specified bit. The game CPU restarts the game by canceling the pause.

An investigation into the ongoing trademark dispute between Cisco and Apple over the name “iPhone” appears to show that Cisco does not own the mark as claimed in their recent lawsuit. This is based on publicly available information from the US Patent and Trademark office, as well as public reviews of Cisco products over the past year. The trademark was apparently abandoned in late 2005/early 2006 because Cisco was not using it.
According to Jay Behmke, a partner at CMPR who specializes in trademark law,The Cisco iPhone trademark was registered 11/16/1999 (Reg. No. 2293011). In order to keep a trademark registration active, you have to file a Declaration of Use on or before the sixth anniversary of the registration date, in which you state, under penalty of perjury, that you have been using the trademark continuously during that period. The sixth anniversary would have been 11/16/2005.

Apple appears unable to “think different” on the cell phone front. First the computer maker nicked the iPhone name for the actual device from Cisco, and now we find it’s grabbed an application name from poor old Citrix.
Earlier this week, Apple bragged about teaming with Cingular on its Visual Voicemail software that runs on the iPhone. The voicemail application displays caller information and allows users to pick the order in which messages are played back instead of forcing you to hear messages in a sequential order.
Such features won’t impress Citrix, which has been selling Visual Voicemail software since it acquired Net6 in 2004.

In addition to the PDAL, i-mate also announced that it will be selling the new JAQ3 QWERTY keyboard equipped Windows Mobile Pocket PC phone in the US, and with the same high-end features as the PDAL, it could be the answer for those that need a well-featured device with a keyboard.
The i-mate JAQ3 is a huge improvement over the original JAQ, which was itself only on the market for a short time before the JAQ3 was announced. Cutting the size and weight of the device down while adding great features like 802.11b/g WiFi connectivity and a 2.0 megapixel camera is fantastic, and the JAQ3 now has the specifications to be able to compete in the crowded Windows Mobile QWERTY phone market. A microSD memory card slot can be used to boost the on board 128MB ROM and 64MB RAM, and the device features the same 2.4″ touchscreen from the PDAL, albeit in a landscape orientation. Bluetooth with A2DP is available, with GPRS/EDGE taking up the reigns for GSM data for this quad-band device. Navigating the Windows Mobile 5.0 with AKU3.2 operating system is made easier with the scroll wheel on the side of the device.
